What This Day Count Calculator Does

This Days Counting Calculator helps you measure date spans and day offsets in two simple ways. You can calculate the difference between two dates, or count forward and backward from a selected start date. The tool can show calendar days, business days, weekend days, and selected holidays, making it useful for planning schedules, deadlines, contracts, projects, travel, and payroll timing.

You can also customize the calculation by including the end date, excluding weekends only, or excluding weekends plus selected U.S. holidays. Additional custom holidays can be added for company closures, school breaks, personal events, or regional observances.

Calculate the Number of Days Between Two Dates

Use this section to find the total number of days between a start date and an end date. The result can include calendar days, business days, weekends, and holidays. If you turn on Include the end date, the final day is counted in the total.

Example: Day Counter Between Two Dates

If the start date is April 18, 2024 and the end date is June 24, 2026, the calculator shows the total date difference in multiple formats, such as years, months, weeks, days, and total calendar days. It can also show how many weekend days, business days, and holidays fall within that period.

When to Use This Calculator

This option is useful when you need to measure elapsed time between two dates for project timelines, legal deadlines, employee leave periods, order lead times, school calendars, or travel planning.

Count Forward or Backward From a Date

Use this section to add or subtract a number of days from a selected start date. You can count using standard calendar days or switch to Business Days Only to exclude weekends, or weekends plus selected holidays.

Example: Count Days From a Start Date

If the start date is November 1, 2025 and you add 459 days, the calculator returns the exact resulting date. If Business Days Only is enabled, the result changes because weekends and selected holidays are skipped during the count.

Common Uses

This option is helpful for contract dates, shipping estimates, response deadlines, hiring timelines, permit processing, business planning, and any situation where you need a future or past day count from a known date.

FAQ

What is the difference between calendar days and business days?

Calendar days include every day on the calendar. Business days usually exclude Saturdays, Sundays, and sometimes holidays, depending on the selected settings.

What does “Include the end date” mean?

When enabled, the ending date is counted as part of the total range. This can increase the result by one day compared with an exclusive end date calculation.

Can I add custom holidays?

Yes. You can add custom holidays with a name, month, day, and optional year. A year value of 0 can be used for recurring holidays, while a specific year applies the holiday only once.

Does this calculator support U.S. federal holidays?

Yes. The holiday settings include major U.S. federal holidays, and you can choose which ones to include in your day count.
